Developing constructive habits

In other booklets in this series we mentioned that at the root of every emotion lies a useful purpose and a positive intention.  Gaining knowledge of emotions and feelings, and the resultant behaviours enable us to recognise and appreciate other people’s behaviour, gain new insights and make better choices.

One of the ways to eliminate negative emotions is to acknowledge, celebrate and reinforce positive emotions and habits.  Being permanently aware of positive emotions can increase confidence, provide us with self-control and help us to understand and empathise with others.

Constructive habits lead to desirable and progressively good behaviours.  Positive emotions help us to turn unwanted habits into desirable ones and enhance the quality of our life. Reinforce and compound good habits by persistent installation of positive emotions. Positive emotions empower us to overcome or replace old, undesirable habits with new and desirable one.

We are interested in the following constructive emotions:

  • Desire
  • Hope
  • Faith
  • Love
  • Enthusiasm
  • Happiness
  • Gratitude
